About us

BRANCH was founded from a clear need: the world’s coral reefs are under increasing pressure, and we are running out of time to protect and restore them. We believe that scalable, efficient, and reliable technology is essential to accelerating coral restoration and conservation efforts globally.

BRANCH Foundation & BRANCH Applications

BRANCH Applications was established in response to a lack of efficient tools and systems needed to achieve the goals of the BRANCH Foundation. The two organizations have a direct and transparent relationship: the Foundation focuses on coral restoration, conservation, and real-world applications, while BRANCH Applications develops the technology and systems needed to support and scale these efforts.

This close collaboration creates a continuous feedback loop between field experience and technology development. The needs and learnings from restoration projects help shape our systems, while the technology enables the Foundation and other partners to increase their impact and accelerate coral restoration worldwide.

About BRANCH

BRANCH was founded from a clear need: the world’s coral reefs are under increasing pressure, and we are running out of time to protect and restore them. We believe that scalable, efficient, and reliable technology is essential to accelerating coral restoration and conservation efforts globally.

BRANCH develops advanced systems for coral cultivation, spawning, research, restoration, and conservation. By combining automation, monitoring, data, and practical expertise, we create tools that make coral cultivation more controlled, efficient, and scalable.

Key team members:

Maarten van der Kuijl

Founder

Maarten is a serial entrepreneur with an engineering background and a passion for marine life. After founding and growing a successful engineering company that became globally active in some of the world’s largest oil & gas projects, he sold the company in 2024 to dedicate his experience and expertise to a new mission: protecting and restoring our oceans.

His passion for diving and marine ecosystems inspired him to found BRANCH Applications, with the goal of developing the technology and scalable solutions needed to accelerate coral restoration worldwide.

Dr Bart Linden

PhD Marine Biologist

Bart holds a PhD in Marine Biology and brings extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in coral restoration, sexual reproduction, and coral spawning techniques.

Within BRANCH, he is responsible for developing reproduction methods and water analyzing applications, helping ensure our systems create the right conditions for successful coral growth and reproduction.
